PPR pipe testing methods

The testing of PP-R pipes is primarily based on the national standard GB/T 18742.2-2017 "Polypropylene Piping Systems for Hot and Cold Water - Part 2: Pipes," which officially came into effect on May 1, 2018, replacing the 2002 version. This standard specifies the technical requirements, test methods, and inspection rules for PP-R pipes.

 

Key testing items include dimensional specifications (wall thickness deviation controlled within ±0.15mm, nominal outer diameter has strict standards), longitudinal shrinkage rate (≤2%), hydrostatic strength (must withstand 16MPa pressure for 1 hour at 20℃ without breaking, and pass a 165-hour hydrostatic strength test at 95℃), simply supported beam impact test (breakage rate ≤10%), ash content (pipe ash content ≤1.5%), melting temperature, oxidation induction time (should be ≥20 minutes), and light transmittance (should be ≤0.2%; if exceeding the standard, it must be marked "not for surface installation"). Hygienic performance must comply with GB/T 17219-1998 "Safety Evaluation Standard for Drinking Water Transmission and Distribution Equipment and Protective Materials".


Raw material quality testing is also crucial, including indicators such as molecular weight (between 300,000 and 800,000) and melt flow rate (MFR for pipes should be within the range of 0.2-0.4 g/10 min). The raw material purity requirement is that random copolymer polypropylene (PP-R) must be used, and the amount of recycled material added should not exceed 10%.

 

For products such as PP-R aluminum-plastic composite pipes, testing must also be conducted according to relevant industry standards (such as CJ/T 210-2005 "Random Copolymer Polypropylene (PP-R) Aluminum-Plastic Composite Pipes").
